The scholar Taj al-Qurra Mahmoud bin Hamza bin Nasr al-Karmani, who died after the year 535 AH, composed this valuable explanation of the book (Al-Ghayah fi al-Qira’at al-‘Ashr) by the scholar Abu Bakr Ahmad bin al-Husayn bin Mihran, who died in 381 AH. It is one of the first books written on the additional readings to the seven collected by Ibn Mujahid al-Baghdadi (d. 325 AH) in his famous book (Al-Sab’ah). The book Al-Ghayah is an abridged book, in which he mentions the choices of the ten readers and adds to them the choice of Abu Hatim Sahl bin Muhammad al-Sijistani, who died in the year 255 AH. It is an explanation that reveals the hidden parts of the book Al-Ghayah and reveals its benefits and pearls, as he mentioned the names of Ibn Mihran’s teachers and students in a way that you will hardly find with anyone else. Al-Karmani also relied on a large group of sources in his explanation, many of which are missing and have not been found.
