The book (The Seven) is the first book written on the seven readings. Its author chose seven readings from the readings of the famous imams in their countries: Mecca, Medina, Basra, Kufa, and the Levant, and included them in his aforementioned book. Thus, he stopped the phenomenon of choice in readings and their multiplicity.

The book (The Seven) has a high status among the books of readings that were written after it. You can hardly find a book on readings that Ibn Mujahid does not mention in it.

The book was scientifically investigated, and its investigator referred to the most important books on readings to evaluate its text. The investigation of the book also included an extensive study of the author’s life and his efforts in language and readings, as stated in the book (The Seven), and what was collected from the books. The study also included defending Ibn Mujahid against what the ancients and moderns accused him of forgery, and responding to these accusations against him.
